Márquez: ‘This surgery wasn’t for pleasure – this is to win’
Can you imagine Marc Márquez living a calm life? The series is a whirl of racetracks, team meetings, team dinners, surgeons, consultations rooms, hospital wards, gyms full of torture gear, training on bicycles, training on motorbikes, private jets, hanging with his gang at the brothers’ Le Corbusier-style mansion in Madrid and lots of pain and moments of dark thoughts. After the fourth operation on his arm, in June last year, he’s wheeled out of surgery, still drugged up to the eyeballs, with all his power gone, his fire extinguished, like Samson shorn of his locks. He lies there weak, like you’ve never seen him, defeated like you’ve never seen him,…

It’s not that she doesn’t love the work she is doing with her team, MP13, supporting two young riders in MotoAmerica’s Twins Cup and Junior Cup classes for 2023, or that she hasn’t enjoyed her role as a mentor to younger riders and working as chief mechanic when she can as well. It’s that she misses swinging her leg over the bike and pushing it, as well…

Pramac Ducati rider Johann Zarco has expressed his unhappiness at the ‘stressful’ demands of MotoGP’s revised schedule, believing them to be a contributing factor in a slew of injuries for multiple riders so far this season. His comments ahead of this weekend’s Grand Prix of The Americas at COTA relate to MotoGP’s move to double the number of races in a season with the addition of a shorter Sprint Race to take place on Saturday afternoon’s. Prompting the first major overhaul of the weekend programme since the current ‘elimination’ qualifying format was introduced in 2013, it has led to a knock-on effect for the schedule, with riders now completing Practice…
