542,000 Michelin truck tires recalled, lack enough traction for snow
DETROIT — Michelin has recalled an estimated 542,000 truck tires that do not have enough traction on them to remain safe in snowy conditions, despite labels indicating they are. According to the Associated Press, the recall impacts certain Agilis CrossClimate C-Metric tires that were tested using the wrong tire pressure.
Additional tests conducted later by Michelin discovered the issue and a recall was planned. Tires without proper traction face an increased risk of crash according to safety regulators. Impacted owners will be contacted by Michelin and the tires will be replaced at dealerships at no cost to the customer.
The recalled tires feature an Alpine symbol with three mountain peaks, which is designed to show the tires work well in snow, but are not classified as snow tires, according to the AP.
Impacted owners will begin being notified of the letter via letters starting on June 12.
