Multiple midsize SUVs have rated poorly for rear-seat safety in a new crash test by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. IIHS, a nonprofit that focuses on improving motor vehicle safety through research and car evaluations, tested 13 midsize SUVs for front crash protection, according to a news release published Tuesday. While all of the vehicles earned high ratings for driver protection in front crashes, the majority of cars tested scored poorly for the safety of passengers seated in the back, IIHS said. “All these vehicles provide excellent protection for the driver,” IIHS President David Harkey said in a statement, “but only a handful extend that level of safety to the back seat.” SUVs…

Byron out to validate Hendrick’s strong start despite fines

    March 18, 2023 /

Comment on this story Comment Back-to-back wins haven’t stopped William Byron from believing he and his Hendrick Motorsports team have a lot to prove in Sunday’s NASCAR stop in Atlanta. In fact, Byron said Saturday, there’s even more on the line. Drivers of the Hendrick Chevrolets want to show the strong start to the season is not the result of illegally manipulating NASCAR’s rules. NASCAR slammed Hendrick Motorsports on Wednesday with the largest combined fine on one team in series history for allegedly modifying louvers, which direct air through the hoods of cars. The penalty included a combined $400,000 in fines — $100,000 to each of its four crew chiefs…

    March 18, 2023 /

It’s that time of year, when potholes litter our roadways and, in many cases, hit our wallets hard. Americans spend billions of dollars every year to repair damages caused by potholes, with an average price tag of almost $600 per repair. Drivers can do one important thing right now to minimize the risk of requiring a tow if they hit a pothole and tire damage disables the vehicle – check the trunk to make sure they have a useable spare. “In 2022, there were almost 700 AAA members, just in South Dakota, whose tire troubles required a tow because they did not have a useable spare,” said Shawn Steward, spokesman…

One Maryland veteran who said he had “lost all hope” and was facing homelessness said he “had no idea what was gonna happen… I didn’t how know I was going to pay rent, how I was gonna get around.” Then he got help from a Carroll County veterans group. (Facebook) WESTMINSTER, Md. (Tribune News Service) — Westminster veteran Anthony Morrissette several months ago found himself carless, unemployed, and on the brink of homelessness. Morrissette, 40, was quickly able to find a job with help from the Carroll County Veterans Independence Project, but a job is no good without reliable transportation.
